Antenatal Support

Guiding You Through Pregnancy: Discovering Your Power

With the right support, pregnancy can be the moment you discover your own strength — a strength that will carry you through the journey of becoming a mother. When you have someone who believes in you and is fully focused on your needs, you’ll find the courage and power to protect and nurture your baby both through their time in your  womb and throughout their  life. A doula can help you tap into that strength and guide you through the process with confidence and care

The way I provide support varies depending on each families needs. Here are just some of the ways I could support you antenatally:

Questions & Answers

We can address any concerns and answer any questions you or your partner may have about pregnancy, labour or early parenting. If I don't know the answers, I will use my various resources to find out and get back to you.

Education & Information

I will provide you with the latest research and evidence, I will support you using my massive library of resources and professional support network, empowering you to make informed decisions that align with your values and preferences.

Advocacy

I will offer guidance on how you and your partner can best advocate for your preferences to be respected and avoid unwanted intervention. I will equip you with tools to make informed decisions and the confidence to ask the right questions

Birth Planning

A comprehensive birth plan is crucial in ensuring a positive birth experience, no matter the outcome or unexpected changes that may arise. In developing your birth plan, we will ensure you are fully informed and confident, with clear guidance on how to handle common birth complications or deviations. This will empower you to feel in control and prepared, even if your birth doesn't go exactly as planned.

Pain Management Strategies

We will explore and practice natural pain management techniques, such as movement, massage, counter-pressure, and understanding the FTP cycle. I’ll teach your partner techniques to relieve discomfort during pregnancy and manage pain during labour. We’ll also discuss the benefits and risks of pharmaceutical pain relief options, explore natural alternatives like TENS and sterile water injections, and help you decide what options you’re most comfortable with.

Optimal Maternal Positioning (OMP)

I can help you understand Optimal Fetal Positioning (OFP) and guide you on positions and movements that can encourage your baby to engage in the best possible position for birth, though I do believe babies often present in the position they need to be in. By aligning and creating space in your pelvis, and reducing tension in the ligaments attached to it, we can optimise the progress of your labour while enhancing your comfort.

Positions for Labour and Birth

We can discuss and practice various labouring positions that can facilitate a smoother and more comfortable birthing process, reduce tearing and help baby descend.

Common Interventions

I can provide education about common medical interventions, their benefits, risks, and alternatives. I will guide you on how to avoid interventions or navigate the choices you have if interventions are necessary or preferred

Relaxation Tools

I will introduce you to various breathing techniques, relaxation exercises, and other tools to promote relaxation and manage stress during labour.

Preparing your Partner

We can equip  your partner with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to support you effectively during birth and postpartum. I can guide partners on how to be more involved if that feels comfortable for them.

Accompanying to Appointments

In some circumstances I may be able to accompany you to prenatal appointments if required, providing additional support and advocacy in situations where you feel you may be coerced. I can guide you on the right questions to ask and help you recognise any red flags with your provider.
